The Girl Behind The Blog

100 Things

1. I am a Scorpio. A terribly, terribly stereotypical Scorpio. Let that be a warning to you all.

2. No one aside from my extended family calls me “Jennifer”, everyone else calls me “Jen”. No, not “Jenny”, if you call me that we will get off on the wrong foot, I’m telling you that now.

3. I will have spent 19 and a half years in a formal educational setting by the time I graduate in June 08. I will graduate as a teacher and go and work in schools. If I do anything else it would be to go back and study more. I really like learning. I’m a graduate now! Who would have thought?! I’ve applied to do a Masters though. Sucker for punishment? Yep, that’d be me!

4. I really dislike being shit at things. I can’t stand to want to know how to do something and be unable to do it. The only thing I am entirely incapable of doing, that I would really like to do, is knitting.

5. I don’t eat meat. I don’t really like meat and I feel better when I don’t eat it, that’s why I’m vegetarian. I just prefer animals much better when they are fluffy and moving as opposed to cooked and on my plate.

6. I am a cold fish, on any given day I could probably stand to wear a cardigan.

7. Dear God, do I love a good cardi.

8. I don’t swim in pools. People wee in them and chlorine smells bad, two very good reasons to stay dry.

7. I love having short hair, it makes me feel like me.

9. Giant, dark sunglasses also make me feel like me. I’ve been wearing them for years and will continue to do so even when they are no longer trendy.

10. I am quite pale, I don’t tan very well. I do, however, burn very well.

11. I have been convinced since I was very little that I would be famous one day.

12. I’d really like to be a singer one day, but the idea of singing in front of an audience fills me with terror.

13. I have to have polished toenails at all times, if I didn’t the world might spin on a different axis.

14. Cooked eggs that are still runny make me want to throw up in my mouth.

15. So does the smell of Parmesan cheese from a jar.

16. …and the taste of roasted capsicum.

17. On the other hand, I really love garlic. I love love it, the smell of it, the taste of it. Everything.

18. …and coriander and corn and boxed chocolates.

19. I have owned three cars during my life, all of which have been wee cars with only three doors. I don’t know what I’d do with rear doors, I feel car rides are so much more cozy when half the passengers need to contort themselves into the vehicle.

20. I don’t like New Year’s Eve, I would happily stay home. It just always feels like such an amazing anticlimax.

21. I really like airports and planes, there is nothing more exciting than going to the airport even if it’s just to collect someone or see someone off.

22. The only thing more exciting than a trip to the airport might be going out for breakfast.

23. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. There are so many fantastic choices.

24. Lunch is my least favorite meal of the day.

25. I am a committed early bird.

26. I require a huge amount of sleep to function properly, any less than about eight hours a night and I’m wrecked.

27. Heights scare me, I can’t climb more than two steps up a ladder without being terrified.

28. I really like eyeglasses but I don’t require them. I think it’s a shame, glasses make me look clever.

29. I have exceptional taste in music.

30. My taste in movies, however, is appalling.

31. I have a tattoo. It took only two minutes to complete and it’s possibly one of the best things I’ve ever gotten. I have a number of tattoos now. All the best things I’ve ever done and I have no plans to stop anytime soon.

32. I’ve had my nose pierced twice…and let the hole close up twice. I think nose piercings are nice but they annoy me.

33. I feel the same way about French manicures and short skirts.

34. I love jeans. I wear jeans all year round, they are the most perfect garment that has ever been created.

35. The second most perfect garment would have to be a scarf. I adore scarves, I would wear one every day should the weather permit me to.

36. I look stupid in hats. I have a large head.

37. I like to play roulette and poker, but I am a very conservative gambler, I don’t like to lose.

38. Children are lovely on weekdays, during the daylight hours but I don’t think I would like one to live with me.

39. I really like sleeping through a whole night, having clean car windows and not having to feed someone else at least three times a day. I am far too selfish to be a parent.

40. However, I’d much prefer to have a wife than a husband.

41. I’d really like to get married some day. Not for the dress or gifts, just mostly the cocktails and the excuse to have a fancy party, and to be a wife.

42. I love wrist corsages.

43. The word “pickle” makes me smile. It’s funny.

44. Toast is good, it’s also the one meal I make well every time.

45. Eggs are good too, I can cook eggs well also.

46. I like to give presents, it’s very fun.

47. Putt putt is my game, I may turn pro one day.

48. Changing earrings makes me feel icky, I can’t watch was the post goes into the hole. It makes me feel faint.

49. I like to watch TV.

50. Few things in the world give me more pleasure than a wonderful cappuccino.

51. I wear sunglasses all the time. If they are not on my face they are usually perched on my head, or, if my hair is awesome that day, in my handbag. If it is day time and I am out and my sunglasses are not one of those three places, heads will roll.

52. I used to go to Girls’ Brigade until I worked out it was a Christian thing, it took me a couple of years to figure it out (I was young!)

53. When I am getting a haircut I like to watch as they cut it, I think it’s interesting.

54. I don’t like to drink soft drinks, I do like to drink water that is just slightly chilled or orange juice with ice cubes.

55. I also like Long Island iced tea, Pimms and mojitos….if we are talking about that sort of drinking.

56. I can do weird, bendy things with my fingers, it will either be very impressive or very repulsive to you.

57. I don’t have a favorite color, but I don’t care for yellow.

58. Any color that is combined with glitter is super awesome.

59. Awesome might be my favorite adjective.

60. I often thrash around in my sleep, sharing a bed with me can be an extreme sport at times.

61. I don’t like chewing gum.

62. I had braces when I was nineteen. It was the single best thing I have ever done, I have perfect teeth as a result.

63. I have a big scar on my right arm from when a cat scratched me when I was young. It’s tough.

64. I took ballet lessons for one day when I was younger, it just didn’t do it for me.

65. I took piano lessons for a few months too. I can’t play piano to save my life.

66. eBay is one of my guilt pleasures.

67. I never really had a job I wanted to do when I grew up, I just always wanted to be famous. I still can’t really say what I want to do, other than be famous. I don’t even know what I’d like to be famous for…

68. Cleaning makes me far more happy than it should. I really enjoy it.

69. I don’t wear any jewellery all of the time, not even earrings. I admire people who commit to a piece of jewellery for a long time. This is now a lie. I constantly wear a hamsa hand and an opal pendant my host teacher gave me on the final day of my prac, I also wear a ring that used to be D’Mummys and another ring I liked and she went back and bought for me. If I take any of these off it now feels as if I’ve lost a limb. I particularly love D’Mummy’s ring.

70. I’ve spent 17 hours on a train before. I’d do it again tomorrow, it was fun.

71. Being a comedian would be fun, but I don’t think I am funny enough. There is nothing worse than watching a comedian who is only slightly funny.

72. I am going to learn to speak Spanish before I die.

73. Swings are my favorite playground toy.

74. I don’t drink beer, I think it tastes awful and you can taste it for hours afterwards. Ick!

75. I once lived on the same street as a house who used to have a nun manequin in the front window. The owners of the nun would dress it in a different fancy dress costume every few days.

76. My first proper job was working in a popcorn store. I have not, nor will I ever be, a big popcorn fan.

80. I hate snowboarding.

81. In my travels I have met people who have offered to kill people for me. To date, I have declined such offers.

82. I don’t hate anyone. I think it is a wasted emotion, why use up so much energy on a negative cause?

83. I would do anything for the people I love.

84. I have absolute faith in the Universe.

85. Taking photos is fun, but I am rubbish at it.

86. I have never had an operation.

87. When I was younger I actively disliked my middle name, now I don’t mind so much.

88. I am unreliable when it comes to returning DVDs on time.

89. I am a really fast learner most of the time.

90. I have always lived in the same city, but I hope to change that soon. Also now a lie, I’ve lived in two countries, to date.

91. I was in a car accident a couple of years ago and it did something that makes my neck hurt when I go on theme park rides. It sucks, I love going on rides.

92. I have big eyes, when I was a baby my big eyes paired with my lack of hair made me look like an alien.

93. It’s a very rare thing for me to get angry. I have only been truly livid three times in my life.

99. I enjoy my own company.

100. People tend to think I am weird. I don’t know if I like it, but I am who I am.

Jen, I started reading this thinking it was your old “100 things” list… I thought it’d be cool to go back and read it now that I know you better to see how many things still applied. I was thinking how eerily exact it was until I realised it’s been written quite recently!! Bah!

  2. jensomewhere December 27, 2007 at 10:31 pm #

The old one is still up at Typepad for the moment if you really want to read it. It’s pretty similar though, I just added in some more interesting stuff this time I think 🙂

Awww I loved reading your list, it is so you (that seems to be a very stupid thing for me to say).

  4. downhomegirl December 29, 2007 at 12:35 am #

See, I’ve been meaning to write an ‘about me’ page for my new blogging home, I just haven’t bothered. But you’ve inspired me, I’m going to steal your format 🙂

  5. jensomewhere December 29, 2007 at 8:08 am #

Kate, LOL! It’s good though, I guess it means that I am being authentic 🙂

downhomegirl, steal away! 100 things lists are tricky to do, but I adore reading them 🙂

    Hi!!!
I googled True Love Tattoo – Friday, 13th tattoos and eventually ended up to your webpage. I had a little read through and came to your “The Girl Behind the Blog”. I really enjoyed reading it. It’s cool. I found it pretty interesting, considering I don’t know you, and I also had a few giggles to myself.
The nun mannequin is on Moggill Road, right? I used to drive passed that thing everyday. Quite funny seeing what new designs they’d come up with every Xmas, New Years, Halloween etc.
BTW……my first tattoo was at True Love Tattoo. It’s a really cool tattoo parlour. Great artists!
Anyway, thanks for a nice read!
    Cheers
